If I was the President

ImageDon’t know how best to put my title except this way as there are a lot of questions begging for answers from my fellow compatriots. And in most cases I think we are in the mess we are because we’ve always felt our hands are tied. Oftentimes I tend to blame the people including myself for the dwindling state of our economy and the failure we’ve experienced so far. We do not have any excuse for not succeeding as a nation we are just been ignorant of our capacity to become great. Still trying to connect the dots, I sincerely hold Nigeria at heart and I believe we are meant to be together to achieve great things. I am not like the soothsayers who believe Nigeria will be some failed state and disintegrate in a couple of years. We are what we believe, if they believe the wrong things about us then we should prove them wrong. It’s that simple but I think it gets simpler with the President. He calls the shots, he sits on a place of authority and he should not take any trash from anybody for whatever reason but he has to live up to it. No one deserves the right to tell the President what to do except his allies but that’s the wrong perception of leadership. Leadership is more of a responsibility than rights; it’s more of a sacrifice than its gains. Our President gained influence through his name and some who believe its divine providence but God has given us ample opportunity to be in a democracy that elects its leaders every four years. We all believe we have a solution to our problems, it starts with the polls and since we are here it’s still our doing so we have to grapple with the effects. Our President first of all was ordained by God to be an authority over us but how he chooses to exercise that authority it’s up to him. So my post is not to question the authority of our beloved President but to clearly accentuate the awesome lessons I have learnt about leadership from his leadership:

  1. Once lucky, but not always lucky. Leadership is not about our names no matter how good or ugly they sound. They may sound like bringing good luck and fortune to us, they may be filled with hope for a better future but everyone chooses to live up to the expectation of their names. Would never say that the President is not doing a great job but he must understand that another term is only deserved if he knows why he is President. He seems to be more distracted by the petty politics in his party mostly and needs to address the problem. We gave him the right to rule us and not his party, after all the cabal never wanted him to become Acting President and how come they are still the same people holding us back, making all the decisions and calling the shots. If I were the President I won’t take away the fact that I deserve another term constitutionally but I have to be tender in that respect. In this case Nigeria comes first before party politics because it’s a responsibility to over 160 million Nigerians and not some junk of people who feels they deserve the right to hold us ransom for their selfish reason. Once elected by the electorate leaders are no longer the product of the party, they become a product of the people they represent and a brand which all of us see through. Politics should be shunned for now since you deserve another term we will determine your fate. Tell the detractors to shut up and the loyalists to stop their babbling. Henceforth anyone talking about 2015 in the PDP should be charged for Treason.

  2. There is a need to let Nigerians understand that they are part of the process in our national development which means urgent attention need to be placed on youth development. The educational system must be fixed because it’s an awesome investment we must give to us now and those coming after us. Nelson Mandela said “Education is the bedrock of any nation.” We must all rise up to the challenge and make our institutions a marvel for nations. We must all take responsibility for Nigeria; no one is going to do it for us. No one will do it for us as the President and other principal officers cannot solve all of our problems but the platform has to be created. For instance youths in a community should be part of the development process in their communities that is if roads are been constructed through their communities they also participate in that construction process, let them know they deserve to also build their communities. If parents can boast to their children that they saw and fought the civil war then the youths should be able to boast to their children that we constructed this road, we built this school and we also made things possible. All this comes with a price; we must inculcate the attitude of service in our youths. Young people should join the law enforcement agencies; let them fight the forces keeping us aback. Every young person should be given an opportunity to participate in some Military enrollment and the exercise should become more flexible as it seems, it equips the nation and it tells them how important it is to render their services to society. In all everyone has a part to play in making Nigeria a great place. It does not require rocket science, it begins with us: me and you. Let’s create a Nigeria that is so amazing where dreams are achieved, where possibilities thrive.

  3. Terrorism: It has become a global phenomenon so it needs a global approach, people are dying every day, just a few days back I was hit by the news of over 40 students been killed in their schools, that’s so unfortunate but we need to fight the menace. The government cannot do it alone but our affirmation as a government and as a people ought to come with a lot of hope. We have persevered enough and these are really some trying times for our nation. Next year I hope to have the Independence Day celebration take place in the heart of Bornu or Yobe, that is how much hope I have that before 1st October 2014 everything will be under control. There is a need to address issues that give us a bad name as a nation as we seek to do the good and do the right things.

  4. Close the Ports: Since the ports are opened they have brought more rot to our system and it is a growing concern to a lot of innovative Nigerians. We import almost everything but the President want to ban the importation of cars, what about rice? We should not ignore the little things, Nigerians buy rice at an exorbitant price and the kind of rice that flood our markets are from Thailand, and every Nigerian must eat rice. What is the moral essence of this? If every Nigerian eats rice then importation of rice should be banned. Wouldn’t it be nice if Thailand starts exporting rice from Nigeria to their country? We need to understand the need to begin to produce everything we eat here because one of the most important things we need is food. It’s a bottom top strategy and so we need to get Nigerians to believe they could do something ordinary and make extraordinary impact. We have a resourceful population and all we need is to make great use of the resources we have for the common good. No nation becomes successful without outside help but it needs to fight for its soul first.

  5. Nigeria should become a place where discipline, righteousness and integrity are the blueprint. It’s not bad we’ve gotten ourselves here because it has afforded me the opportunity to learn what I could not learn, do what I could not do and make impact in meaningful areas. There is a need to clean up our system for better performance and greater effectiveness. Righteousness exalts a nation and we must learn and love to do right. People should be peaceful in their speeches and in their actions. People should not tell us Nigeria will burn if we do not vote for one man. At whose expense, no one can force us to cast our votes for whoever no matter their influence or interests. We will all give them a good fight because no one assumes the right to tell us about our future which to them it’s a terrible ending but we should all thrive to write our future on the streets of gold. To build those streets of gold it means we have to go through a refining process together.

What would you do if you were the President?

Why You Shouldn’t Join AIESEC

aieseccccccccccI joined AIESEC in May this year regardless of what I heard about this organization. Through the years I’ve tried to develop myself, it was a great process really learnt some hard and soft skills and what it’ll take to become a leader but I also need to learn to work in a team. So I took that bold step and some may ask why did it took this long. People that want to remain in the same place will only tell you the negatives about something while they contribute less. I saw jobs came to me through AIESECers and it still does then I made a bold step to join myself. However, if you know the good stuff about something you experienced you must as well know the bad stuff about it. So here are 5 reasons why you shouldn’t join AIESEC:

Early into real work.

You are still a student, one or two years in the university, or you maybe just joined it, and you find yourself already working for some organization, having a full time job, contacting enterprises and meeting CEOs, organizing professional events, managing people, leading a team through a certain period, being part of a team, doing plans and backup plans, thinking about how to use your resources in a perfect way. You will become a professional since a young age while you’re still in college.

Your CV will be hard to write.

Usually, normal CVs don’t take more than two minutes to write and prepare, yours will take at least hours. After joining AIESEC, with all the experience you have, the skills you developed and the things you’ve done, you wouldn’t be able to make them fit on a 2 page CV. It will be so hard for you to list them all on a single CV, it is a hard task come on.

You’ll lose all prejudges you have.

You have prejudged a certain race, certain country or certain region? In AIESEC, you will lose them all. You will meet a lot of new people from different countries, different races and different regions in national or international conferences. You will visit a lot of new countries and get to know their true culture. You will have friends there, and by that you will lose everything bad you have in mind about them because you will know them for what they truly are. You will finally figure out that you were wrong and end up changing your mind about the world.

Your contact list will be too damn long.

Networking is one of the most important things in AIESEC. You will have a huge network of professionals you worked with on events, you will have a network of friends you met on conferences and people you engaged by AIESEC activities. So you will have a lot of visit cards and you will a hard time organizing your contact list and that will drive you crazy.

You will grow mature and join a cause.

You are still young; you want to have fun, party and live your life to the fullest. You can’t believe that you will be wearing a suit and tie and going to important meetings. You are still young for big causes and that complicated stuff. In AIESEC, you will learn the value of volunteering, you’ll be part of a non for profit organization and will work for free, you will start believing in a certain cause, defending it and actually fighting for it. You will try to change the world and achieve peace.

The thing about AIESEC is that once you join it you go to a completely new level. You change your mindset, you will join a professional world, you will experience leadership in every action you make, and you will become an entrepreneur and have the chance to develop yourself in a Global Learning Environment.
You will change lives, impact society, help people, join a cause, develop skills, become a Leader, get to be an entrepreneur, become better and seek the best for the world, for your country, for people around you and for yourself. You will become a Change Agent.

So what is your excuse not to join this magnificent world?

“Purpose is the discovery of a reason for your existence and is defined as the original intent for the creation of a thing. Every human being was created for a specific purpose, and when that purpose is discovered, then a leader is born” – Dr Myles Munroe (The Spirit of Leadership)

Who are you? It’s a question that a lot of people fail to ask so they strive to become everyone else. What truly defines us? Our values, character and attitude are the qualities that distinguish us from each other and make us want to join a cause or start one. We are humans made in the image and likeness of our Creator with a flesh and with awesome supernatural tendencies through our Spirit. It leads us out of the natural to something more distinct and unseen that most of what we hope to receive is received by faith. We are being transformed in our minds by the renewal of our Spirit which always connects us to our Source – God. We are all the same being, unique with different gifts, talents, dreams and purpose. The primary purpose of God towards us is to manifest His glory here on earth, so when you choose to become someone else you waste what you have been created to become. Everyone has a purpose but you will have to do some work discovering that which you have been created to be.

Unfortunately a lot of people with tremendous gifts and resources have allowed other people to run their lives.  They tell you what to do with your lives and they become the primary reason for doing it. There is no room for mistake and they will want you to be perfect. You fail them then you are adjudged to have failed completely. You become frustrated, depressed and disconnected from what you truly want to become. The reason for doing anything should come from you, you must discover those reasons for yourself or else you will not be happy doing it. Let their voices be the last you will consider which is after making your decisions based on your gifts and calling in life. However, in life there is never a perfect path to success until you take the first steps in achieving your purpose. If you must choose that path you must ensure that it aligns with the purpose of God for your life to make whatever He has placed in your hands to manifest His glory.

The only thing that can keep us from becoming all we have been created to be is our heart that is why the Word of God asked us to guard our hearts for out of it comes the issues of life. The enemy is within you, in your heart that is where you win or lose any battle. Regardless of the fact that there is a lot of evil in the world today, you must guard your heart not to be like them but to be as God made you to be. The evil around makes you believe that you are worthless, valueless and hated. It makes you aware of the wrong things going on around you that if you cannot beat the world system, you will have to join them by becoming like them. It lies to you that you are a lesser being and nothing good can come out of you while you are much more. It tells you to give up even though you have been given the capacity to walk through the unending waves. It always gives you a bad meaning of life that we cannot enjoy life and keeps you poor minded. It often gives us a bad song when all we need is a whisper of good rhythms of life.

However, it is hard to see the goodness in the world because it seems evil has sabotaged the effort of that goodness, but goodness still strives. Evil is always perpetrated and it triumphs because we have failed to identify who we are. A corrupt self breeds a corrupt system.

Who are you? Are you that person that strives be different, conquer evil with generosity, love, gratitude, understanding and wisdom? Are you that person that seeks to see the good in others, appreciate them even when they are not at their best? Are you that person who seeks to be more , pursue what is right, possess the right character, attitude and value to build a good system within you and it will rub on everyone around you.

In you is a new dance, you could rock the world.

In you is a new book, it could become a bestseller.

In you is an invention, you could build an innovative system.

In you is a leader, you could bring awesome change to the world.

In you is a teacher, you could lead generations towards a path to greatness.

In you is a renowned speaker, you could inspire and motivate a new generation of leaders to begin to make a difference.

In you is a song, you could win a Grammy.

In you is a word that could change your world.

It would not matter whether you have the resources or not, what matters is that you have a dream that can transform the world. No matter your disability you can become great, what matters is that drive inside that will get you fired up. You can conquer and rise above circumstances surrounding you right now to become more. The odds might be against you but you have to play even and not sit around doing nothing. Keep dreaming, do what you really love doing, educate yourself and pursue a cause.

Why iExist

“I am fortunate to be alive today and I cannot live on earth forever, I will achieve my purpose no matter the circumstances that arise. I shall rise above it.”

existsMost unfortunate that in this part of the world where there is abject poverty and dwindling economic conditions, a lot of people still look up to government to change their fortunes. The people often forget that they are the government and they have the power to choose who represents them even when it’s tyrannical. I am not going to be talking about government as a place of power because that is not my reason for this note. The reason for this note is to help us exercise our powers as Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers and friends as citizens of our dear nation to take note of why we exist. A whole lot of us don’t really know why we exist and we easily become frustrated because we don’t know why we are here on earth. We are alive but literally dead inside. The real meaning of who we are and why we are here is absolutely missing. In the past centuries a lot of breakthroughs have been experienced which has shaped how we communicate and also changed the way people think. In the past century if you are building a train behind your house they will say you are weird but in recent times you could start a project in your backyard and if you are in a sane society people would see you as exercising your purpose, a lot more would think you are insane. What you think about is all you become? When all you do is worry about what is not working then you are doing yourself more harm than good. There was never a time when complaining solved a problem, it only made the problem even worse. Once you know why you exist even those circumstances around you would look more like a good experience than a bad one.

Let me put you through on my own list of why I exist:

  1. I exist to do the will of God in my life and be a blessing to as many as He leads me.
  2. I exist to take dominion upon the earth and to leave my world better than I met it.
  3. I exist to help people realize what their purpose is and get them to maximize their potentials.
  4. I exist to be a good son, good brother, good uncle and great father.

From my lists above four questions can be deduced from it:

  1. Why do I belong to this family?
  2. What does God want from me?
  3. What is my obligation to my community (people around me)?
  4. What is my true purpose?

When you are able to answer these questions and a lot more you will want to add to it, you’ll be able to know how your thoughts of your existence will begin to change everything around you. Why you exist is that purpose that has been placed in your heart. Purpose is what creates the passionate drive to be different and have a transformed mind, and that of everyone around you. When you discover why you exist, it ignites a conviction within you. This conviction generates a vision in your heart that stirs you up passionately. You will begin to think of meeting needs and would not worry if yours is not met. Been in that attitude means you believe you are accountable and responsible for your actions. If you are not honest, dishonest dealings would always come through your path but when you begin to grow in a positive light you need the right attitude to stay at it. Your attitude yesterday is what determines your quality today; it dictates your response in the present. Attitude creates your world and designs your destiny. It determines your success or failure in any venture in life. More opportunities have been lost, withheld, and forfeited because of attitude than from any other cause. Attitude is a more powerful distinction than beauty, power, title or social status. You can have all this but without a good attitude, you are just like trash in a garbage bin. Your attitude is more important than wealth – and it can keep you poor. It is what makes things possible or impossible depends on what kind of attitude you have. Everything around us is ruled by our attitude towards ourselves and the circumstances around us. Our decision today is what will affect tomorrow, when we are bad today and we want to keep at it one extra day so we become worse. But when we have an attitude that says it’s enough and I cannot let this steal my future. You are telling your body I have control over you, you become a new person who wants well for self and for everyone around you.

In the previous year I focused more on creating some awesome experiences from my circumstances this year, controlling my emotions and possessing a good attitude and they became a stepping stone for me. Last year I was angrier with the government on this side of greatness (the masses) and the government on that other side of intense corruption and lobbying. Every day we are all moving closer to that government on that other side of intense corruption and lobbying but what we are today would determine what we are becoming as we move up there. Our decisions today would affect our future and when we choose to make the wrong ones, fight the wrong battles and still have a very bad attitude we are placing the future of those coming after us at risk. What are your values as a person? Do you have integrity, can you be trusted? Are you honest and justified? Remember that our actions today would prove our worth, if we behaved properly, are polite and really nice to people that is what will count in today’s world. When I look around me all I see are people in need but just a few could be met, more people are needed in the field. Leave the comfort of your air-conditioned office, car and apartments and go out there and meet a need. The society needs you more. I am already on course for mine and I am meeting a need in society already through my Non – profit organization Youths for Change (Y4C), we are changing the world around us.

The future belongs to those who believe that they could change their lives by beginning to think positive, possess the right values and characters.

So why do you exist?

Leadership Secrets

Let’s get this out of the way right up front: There is no such thing as “leadership secrets.” Leadership, real leadership anyway, has no secrets left. Virtually everything there is to say and know about leadership has been said or taught.

There are lots of “leadership fads” but they tend to come and go. I receive offers in my email everyday day for a free webinar or seminar to learn the newest “leadership tricks” and methods.

It’s all garbage!

Leadership is about people, not things. You can manage your cash flow, you can manage your inventory and you can manage your systems and process. But you cannot manage people. People don’t need a manager, they need a leader.

Some people in leadership positions resist this concept and attempt to manage their people. In these situations both the “leader” and follower become frustrated and that frustration manifests itself with underperformance. From…
